PSHE (personal, social, health and economic) education is a curriculum subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to manage their lives effectively, now and in the future.
PSHE education helps pupils live healthily, happily and to be prepared for the challenges and rewards of their adult life ahead.
The PSHE curriculum at Downfield allows children to explore common themes and content in a school-wide approach whilst taking into account age-appropriate material and concepts.
Within our Jigsaw scheme of work, puzzle piece 6 - Changing Me - includes RSE work for all year groups.

RSE (Relationships & Sex Education)
Exploring the nature of healthy relationships is an important part of our PSHE work at Downfield. Recent changes in legislation have meant a renewed emphasis on quality RSE (relationships and sex education).

At Downfield we use a published scheme called Jigsaw. Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. This provides a shared focus for all pupils and teachers and allows us to explore the incredibly important concepts together as a whole school community.
Jigsaw aims to help children know and value who they really are and how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world.
There are six jigsaw pieces - one per half term. An overview of what each of these contains can be found below.
